Theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a pastor and anti-Nazi dissident who was known for his staunch resistance to the Nazi dictatorship before and during the Second World War. He faced extreme pressure from society, and the rising Nazi regime, for teaching and preaching against anti-Semitism. Ultimately, Bonhoeffer was arrested for his involvement in helping Jews flee the country, and was hanged in a concentration camp just one month before the war ended in 1945.

Taking a stand against evil is a challenging path requiring courage, conviction, and a willingness to sacrifice your comfort (and maybe more) for your beliefs. Ask God for the wisdom to recognize evil when you see it, and the faith to speak up, and to act if necessary, against it.
